To accelerate the construction of a world-class university, improve the quality of international student recruitment and training, and enhance the efficiency of educational management of international students, Shandong University has established Shandong University Scholarship for Outstanding International Students (hereinafter refers to "SDU Scholarship"). Every year, a number of international students studying for degree programs at SDU will receive scholarship support.
I. Eligibility
1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens, be friendly to China, and be physically and mentally healthy.
2. Applicants must be an international student who has been admitted but has not yet registered for the current academic year.
3. Degree and age requirements:
(1) Applicants must hold a high school diploma or an equivalent qualification, have excellent academic performance, and be under the age of 25 when applying for Bachelor programs;
(2) Applicants must hold a Bachelor's degree or an equivalent qualification, have excellent academic performance, and be under the age of 35 when applying for Master programs;
(3) Applicants must hold a Master's degree or an equivalent qualification, have excellent academic performance, and be under the age of 40 when applying for Doctoral programs.
4. Applicants may not simultaneously receive any other scholarships/grants.
5. Language Requirements:
(1) Chinese-taught Programs
Applicants must pass the HSK Level 5 examination (180 points or above) when applying for Bachelor programs (Applicants who want to apply for the major “Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages” must pass the HSK Level 4 examination (210 points or above));
Applicants must pass the HSK Level 6 examination (180 points or above) when applying for Master programs;
Applicants must pass the HSK Level 6 examination (210 points or above) when applying for Doctoral programs;
Applicants with the highest level of education taught in Chinese are exempt from providing an HSK certificate, but must provide proof of the language of instruction.
(2) English-taught Programs
Applicants whose native language is English are exempt from providing English language proficiency certificates. Applicants whose native language is not English must provide proof of English language proficiency with the results of IELTS (6.0 or above), TOEFL (80 points or above, SDU Weihai Campus' DI code: C296), MyBest Scores (80 points or above), Essentials test (8 points or above), or other equivalent English language proficiency certificates. Applicants whose native language is not English but have received their highest level of education taught in English are exempt from providing IELTS/TOEFL certificates and other proof of English proficiency, but must submit proof of the language of instruction.
6. Applicants must meet other requirements stated in SDU Weihai Campus' application instructions for international students for the current academic year.
7. Applicants must meet the criteria specified in the Notice by the Ministry of Education of Regulating Admission of International Students to China's Higher Education Institutions (Letter No. 12 [2020] of the Ministry of Education).
Note: The exit and entry administration authority of the Chinese public security organ will determine whether the applicant has Chinese nationality in addition to foreign nationality based on the results of the nationality determination. If it is determined that the applicant holds Chinese nationality after application, admission, or enrollment, the application, admission, or study qualification will be annulled.
II. Scholarship Coverage and Duration
1. Scholarship coverage: There are two types of scholarships, full scholarship and partial scholarship. Full scholarship covers tuition, living allowance, accommodation and comprehensive medical insurance. Partial scholarship covers tuition and comprehensive medical insurance.
2. Scholarship duration: The funding period of the scholarship is consistent with the basic study period. In principle, the funding period will not be extended.
III. Application Time
From now to April 1, 2026
Note: After the application deadline, no supplementary materials will be accepted. Applicants are advised to complete their applications at least two weeks before the deadline.
IV. How to Apply, Programs and Application Documents
1. Log in to the SDU Weihai Campus Online Application System for International Students (http://apply.wh.sdu.edu.cn) to complete the application.
2. Pay the application fee of 400 RMB upon receiving a pre-admission email (Once the application fee is paid, it will be non-refundable.).
3. V. Application Result
After completing the application, applicants should regularly check the application system and their registered email box to follow up on the status and related information.
VI. Others
1. After being awarded the SDU Scholarship, applicants must arrive at Shandong University, Weihai for the registration as specified in the letter of admission. During registration, documents such as the original copies of the graduation/degree certificate, language proficiency certificate, Foreigner Physical Examination Form and other required documents will be verified. Those failing to submit the corresponding certificates will be disqualified from enrollment.
2. The partial scholarship winners of SDU Scholarship must pay all the required fees on time and participate in the annual review. For those who fail the assessment, their qualification as scholarship students will be suspended or annulled.
