The Chinese Government Scholarship (Type B) is a full scholarship program for international students established by the Chinese government. It aims to fund outstanding students and scholars from around the world to study or conduct research at Chinese institutions, fostering exchanges and cooperation between China and other countries in various fields.
I. Eligibility
1. Applicants must be physically and mentally healthy, friendly to China, have no criminal record, and be non-Chinese citizens holding a valid regular foreign passport;
2. Academic Qualifications and Age Requirements
(1) Applicants must hold a high school diploma or an equivalent qualification, have excellent academic performance, and be under the age of 25 when applying for Bachelor programs;
(2) Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification, have excellent academic performance, and be under the age of 35 when applying for Master programs;
(3) Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or an equivalent qualification, have excellent academic performance, and be under the age of 40 when applying for Doctoral programs.
3. Language Requirements
(1) Chinese-taught Programs
Applicants must pass the HSK Level 5 examination (180 points or above) when applying for Bachelor programs (Applicants who want to apply for the major “Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages” must pass the HSK Level 4 examination (210 points or above));
Applicants must pass the HSK Level 6 examination (180 points or above) when applying for Master programs;
Applicants must pass the HSK Level 6 examination (210 points or above) when applying for Doctoral programs;
Applicants with the highest level of education taught in Chinese are exempt from providing an HSK certificate, but must provide proof of the language of instruction.
(2) English-taught Programs
Applicants whose native language is English are exempt from providing English language proficiency certificates. Applicants whose native language is not English must provide proof of English language proficiency with the results of IELTS (6.0 or above), TOEFL (80 points or above, SDU Weihai Campus’ DI code: D310), MyBest Scores (80 points or above), Essentials test (8 points or above), or other equivalent English language proficiency certificates. Applicants whose native language is not English but have received their highest level of education taught in English are exempt from providing IELTS/TOEFL certificates and other proof of English proficiency, but must submit proof of the language of instruction.
4. Applicants must also meet other requirements stated in 2026 Application Instructions for International Students (Bachelor Programs) at Shandong University, Weihai, 2026 Application Instructions for International Students (Master Programs) at Shandong University, Weihai and 2026 Application Instructions for International Students (Doctoral Programs) at Shandong University, Weihai.
5. Applicants must meet the criteria specified in the Notice by the Ministry of Education of Regulating Admission of International Students to China’s Higher Education Institutions (Letter No. 12 [2020] of the Ministry of Education).
Note: The exit and entry administration authority of the Chinese public security organ will determine whether the applicant has Chinese nationality in addition to foreign nationality based on the results of the nationality determination. If it is determined that the applicant holds Chinese nationality after application, admission, or enrollment, the application, admission, or study qualification will be annulled.

From now to February 6, 2026
Note: After the application deadline, no supplementary materials will be accepted. Applicants are advised to complete their applications at least two weeks before the deadline.

IV. Scholarship Coverage
1. Duration: In principle, it is consistent with the basic study period.
2. Coverage:
(1) Tuition fees;
(2) Free accommodation or housing allowance provided;
(3) Living allowance;
(4) Comprehensive medical insurance.

V. Application Procedure
1. Apply online through the Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS) Application System (https://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn/#/login), select the program type (Type B) and enter the agency number (10422). After completing the application, download the “Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form”.
2. Log in to the Shandong University, Weihai Online Application System for International Students (http://apply.wh.sdu.edu.cn) to fill in personal information, upload the required documents and complete the online application. Paper application documents sent by post are not required.
Note: Applicants must apply through both of the above systems, or your application will not be accepted by Shandong University.
3. Pay the application fee of 400 RMB upon receiving a pre-admission email (Once the application fee is paid, it will be non-refundable.).

VII. Application Instructions
1. All uploaded documents must be in Chinese or English. If the documents are in other languages, the original document and a certified translation in English or Chinese must be uploaded together. Please use a scanner to scan the relevant documents in color, as pictures of documents taken with mobile phones or cameras, as well as photocopies, will not be accepted. Except for the “Foreigner Physical Examination Form” and personal signatures, handwritten documents will not be accepted.
2. The admission departments of Shandong University, Weihai and its colleges reserve the right to request applicants to provide supplementary application documents.
3. Applicants should ensure the authenticity and accuracy of the provided application information and materials. Once the admissions unit or the certification department verifies that the information is untrue, the applicant’s application, admission, or enrollment qualification will be canceled.
4. Chinese Government Scholarship recipients are not allowed to simultaneously receive financial support from other scholarships established by various levels of the Chinese government or admitting institutions, all kinds of one-time bonuses excluded. For those who deliberately conceal their sponsorship situation, if such a violation is discovered, their Chinese Government Scholarship qualification will be revoked, and the received scholarship funds must be returned.
VIII. Review and Recommendation
Shandong University, Weihai is responsible for reviewing the application materials and approving the list of recommended candidates for the scholarship. The recommended candidates will be selected based on the evaluation of experts from the China Scholarship Council.
IX. Others
1. After being awarded the Chinese Government Scholarship, applicants must strictly follow the time specified in the admission letter to register at Shandong University, Weihai. During registration, documents such as the original copies of the graduation/degree certificate, language proficiency certificate, Foreigner Physical Examination Form and other required documents will be verified. Those failing to submit the corresponding certificates will be disqualified from enrollment.
2. Chinese Government Scholarship winners must participate in the annual review. For those who fail the assessment, their qualification as scholarship students will be suspended or annulled.
